Speightstown Leaps to Top of Sires List Ranking

WinStar Farm's son of Gone West has $5,267,482 in progeny earnings through Feb. 21.

WinStar Farm's champion sprinter Speightstown vaulted to the top of the North American sire standings following second-place finishes Feb. 20 by his 4-year-old son Charlatan in the $20 million Saudi Cup and by his 7-year-old son Matera Sky in the $1.5 million Saudi Arabian Airlines Riyadh Dirt Sprint.

The 23-year-old son of Gone West has $5,267,482 in Northern Hemisphere progeny earnings through Feb. 21, according to The Jockey Club Information System's Equineline. Prior to the Saudi Cup weekend, Speightstown ranked ninth by progeny earnings.

Grade 1 winner Charlatan couldn't hold off the hard-charging Mishriff in the Saudi Cup, but second-place was still worth a handsome $3.5 million. The colt bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings has now earned $3,747,200 in five starts for owners SF Racing, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables, Stonestreet, Fred Hertrich III, John Fielding, and Golconda Stables.
